Introduction

Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that emphasizes a balance between patient care and population health. Over the past several decades, CHS has played a major role in leading the development of national level primary health care, public health practice, health systems through evidence-based approach. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasizing empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. As part of an international university, CHS collaborates in a global network of outstanding research and teaching institutions including AKU affiliates in East Africa and Central Asia.

CHS has five major sections – Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental-Occupational Health & Injuries, and Non-Communicable Diseases & Mental Health.

Responsibilities

Being a member of the team to teach graduate level studies in public health and conduct research, you will be responsible to:

  • teach and facilitate in graduate level educational programs specifically Masters of Science in Public Health (MSPH)
  • actively participate in developing, planning and conduct of curriculum
  • carry out assigned administrative responsibilities related to teaching and undertaking other scholarly activities
  • provide assistance to undergraduate and graduate level students in developing research project / thesis as an advisor /committee member
  • actively participate in preparing, assessing/grading tutorial exercises, providing required feedback to students, classroom quizzes, home assignments, examinations or any other academic activities assigned by course directors and program director
  • actively participate in course and program-based coordination activities for undergraduate and graduate programs
  • adhere to University’s policies and established performance norms for evaluation of students/ course participants ensuring that this is based on fair and equitable parameters
  • participate in ongoing research projects in Section/Department in consultation with respective Section Head
  • undertake independent research and/or participate in research activities and contribute to their expansion and success
  • develop and assist in conducting skills based short courses to a wider audience
  • participate in departmental and organisational performance improvement activities.


Requirements

You should have:

  • a minimum of PhD or FCPS in a Public Health discipline with demonstrated capacity as a teacher and evidence of scholarship in practice, education, and research, with at least five years of experience in related field
  • skills to design and lead coursework in Public Health disciplines
  • ability to provide conceptual and technical input to a diverse range of research studies in the department and the Institution
  • demonstrable ability to develop research projects and securing a competitive grant for it, undertaking the research, publishing, and disseminating research findings
  • knowledge of new teaching methodologies and practices with learning aptitude
  • good academic communication abilities including oral and writing skills
  • strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • knowledge of scientific programming languages/statistical software would be an added advantage.
