Job Description and Duties
Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least (1) Permanent, Full-Time Office Technician (Typing) for the Medical Services Department in the Offsite Medical Service office. This position is under the direct supervision of the Medical Services Administrator.
The Office Technician (Typing) in the Offsite Medical Service office will provide day-to-day duties to include but are not limited to the following: answer department telephone, assist callers, forward calls, and take messages as needed for department staff; receive internal clinics referrals, enter data to WaRMSS, and manage scheduling and/or rescheduling; assist in the maintenance and renewal process of medical contracts; assist with organization and daily functioning of the Medical Services Administrator's office; reviews, copies, and distributes medical reports received from internal clinics and/or external facilities; take part in data collection regarding the Medical Services Department, including policy and procedure, and personnel; consults with other department officials, employees, and other hospital staff to secure needed information; prepares reports and makes recommendations on procedures, policies, and department alternatives; communicates with internal clinics and/or external facilities and agencies to assist the normal functioning of the Medical Services Department.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. This will include good spelling and grammar skills. The candidate must possess the ability to work effectively on the computer. This will include the effective use of common computer programs such as Excel, Adobe, and Word. The ability to use common office electronic devices such as fax and copy machines, printers, and multi-line telephones is required. The candidate must have the ability to interact with others professionally, even when under time constraints and other pressures. The candidate must be able to create and maintain effective databases for the tracking and monitoring of reports and other time-sensitive documents/processes.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and must be highly reliable regarding the accuracy of work, time management, and consistent attendance.
A minimum typing speed of 40 wpm is required. Please submit a copy of your typing certificate with your application.

Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, before being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
- The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation to be cleared before being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance before being hired.
Effective October 1, 2021, by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) State Public Health Order of August 5, 2021, all workforce members in DSH state hospitals are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination regimen. Before your first day, you will be required to fill out a COVID-19 Vaccination Consent Form.
Effective February 1, 2022, by the CDPH State Public Health Order of December 22, 2021, hospital workforce members currently eligible for booster doses must have received their booster dose.
- If you are fully vaccinated, you must provide evidence of vaccination before your start date.
- If you are not fully vaccinated, you have the option to receive a vaccine from one of the State Hospitals before your start date.
- If you are not fully vaccinated and choose to complete a request for an exemption, you must submit this exemption and receive approval before your start date.
- If you are not yet eligible for a booster, you must be in compliance no later than 15 days after the recommended timeframe for receiving the booster dose.
All-State Hospital Locations:
Please note that start dates will be dependent upon if and when proof of vaccination or exemption requirements are submitted timely and approved.
Face Coverings
While working on-site, employees must follow current face-covering guidance as issued by CDPH.
